Thrasher Skater of the Year 2016

It’s that time of year again and another Thrasher Skater of the Year is about to be announced!

SO MAKE SURE TO VOTE

Thrasher Skater of the Year

Andrew Allen – came through with a solid edit after changing up teams and officially getting on HOCKEY.

BA – previous SOTY 1999, should he get another one, also changed up teams this year and is now on Anti Hero.

Pedro Barros – this guy crushed the Vans Park Series so hard they had to do one in his hometown, also back 3’ed the Combi replica at Vans Pro Tec Pool Party

Silas Baxter-Neal – previous SOTY 2008 and owner of the now defunct Grotto, always killing it harder then the AMs and been Pro for a while now too.

Elijah Berle – this guy just dropped new footage in the Vans “No Other Way Video” and is incredibly diverse with no terrain of choice, he skates it all.

Dane Burman – insane skateboarder, one of the gnarliest skateboarders on the planet, remember this Thrasher cover?  To bad we can not consider it this year.

Great style totally your call.

Dennis Busenitz – Killing it forever, just celebrated 10 years of being a part of Adidas Skateboarding with a short documentary, is derserving of SOTY.

Axel Cruysberghs – annihilated King of the Road, came out swinging in Volcom Holy Stokes would be crazy to win, but has the potential to one day for sure.

Ryan Decenzo – this guy is everywhere and has been for going on a decade, you never know, Canada could use a few more SOTY around.

Bobby De Keyzer – speaking of Canada, this guy put Club Gear on the map, put out some refreshing footage that was different and enjoyable, great style totally your call.

Jon Dickson – made the move to Emerica in Made Chapter 2, has been on the road since Baker Has a Deathwish, no end in sight.

Justin Figueroa – this guy just has no fear at all, rides some of the largest rails and is a skateboarder’s skateboarder, isn’t that what Skate of the Year is supposed to do?

This guy has been smashing into, around and through!

Jamie Foy – talk about making a statement in your rookie year, pretty sure the word “pinch god” came about literally from the way this guy locks his front crooks.

Austyn Gillette – a personal fav, now on WKND and although everything he puts out has been more then proper, being sidelined with injury earlier this year might be hurting his chances.

Paul Hart – this part had the internet clucking this guys name, feels like a while back but it was just two months ago, it’s your call.

Aaron Homoki – Went back to the Ali Boulala gap 3 times to get this make, even had the pressure of Ali himself being on hand for it, also King of the Road MVP.

Jerry Hsu – Certainly deserving after all the amazing parts, photos and all around interesting takes on skateboarding over the years.  Heres on of my favorites from Jerry.

Jake Johnson – changing the way people skateboard must put you in the running for SOTY right?  This guy has been smashing into, around and through and was one of the first to do it.

Went from not really on the look out for this guys footage to being super down

Tyshawn Jones – owner of Hardies Hardware, turned FA Pro and cranked out this part for Adidas Skateboarding’s Away Days.  No reason this guy couldn’t become SOTY one day.

Chris Joslin – too bad this his debut part in Plan B TRUE isn’t being considered.  Here’s Part 1 and Part 2

Tiago Lemos – from what I have heard, this guy is a legend in South America.  You know the name, the switch back tails the super high pop out of everything – how are you going to vote?

Louis Lopez – went from not really on the look out for this guys footage to being super down to watch Louie parts after his Volcom Holy Stokes Part.

Alec Majerus – Away Days Aways Days Away Days is that enough for him to win SOTY 2016?

Milton Martinez – unfortunately reminded us why the Car Wash, is the Car Wash.  This guy is really gnarly and doesn’t seem like he is going to ever let up.  Check it out.

Ledge innovator and been progressing skateboarding  long enough to be SOTY.

Collin Provost – it’s like the entire cast of Volcom’s Holy Stokes is up for SOTY.  The spider wrecks it all and might be due this year, I’ll let Viceland explain.

Lucas Puig – been one of my favorite skateboarders since his first Cliche switch heel ad.  Ledge innovator and been progressing skateboarding long enough to be SOTY.

Andrew Reynolds – SOTY 1998 means he actually won most likely right after winning Tampa AM and Tampa PRO back to back, only skateboarder to ever do that.  Knowing Andrew he’d be more hyped to see one of his friends win it, seems like such a supportive guy.

Chris Russell – unfortunately at a disadvantage because most skateboarders probably really have a hard time understanding whats even going on in edits like this.

Miles Silvas – Away Days video part, an LRG video part and now his PUSH video is slowly hitting the internet.  He’s been putting in the work for sure.

Evan Smith – this guy has to be in the running after that Element video ending part.  Always having fun not to mention wrecking Street League, putting out his DC shoe video  and still finding time to film for Plus Skateshop’s No Hotels video.

He is still down to rip Phili and keep himself grounded

Na-Kel Smith – people love this guy and although he is new to us, he’s known by many industry insiders as they’ve been taking care of him since he was a grom.  Take it Away Days for the footage.

Grant Taylor – This guy is so good all around and was Thrasher Skater of the Year 2011, ATL PTL.

Daan Van Der Linden – new Anti Hero pro, insane part in Volcom Holy Stoke’s and been on everyone’s radar for more then just 2016, maybe he has your vote.

Ishod Wair – you know Ishod from SOTY 2013 and what’s so rad about him, he is still down to rip Phili and keep himself grounded.  This post was from the final 48 hours of 2015, so it’s your call.

Kyle Walker – The onslaught begins at 7:10 into the Vans No Other Way Video and at the time of this article it’s only been 24 hours it’s approaching 200,000 views.  When you skate enogh spots that are not even spots yet because no one has done anything there because people are just not that insane yet, you have to be considered for Thrasher SOTY 2016.

Erick Winkowski – If you skated in the 80’s then this guy shatters any hope you had on notion that the equipment of the day was holding you back.  He rips and makes tricks even cooler riding the difficult to skate no nose reissues of yesterday.

Who do you think I voted for?

Bobby Worrest – non stop traveler, one of my favorite plaza skateboarders.  Recently reminded all of us he can still skate rails with ease by switch back lipping the DC capped gold bar.  Recently put out this shared part from Paris.  From his Instagram looks like he just headed to Tokyo with the GX1000 crew.  I know I’ll be looking forward to checking out the footage from that for sure.

No matter who you decide should win Thrasher Skater of the Year 2016 I hope that some of these videos reminded you just how amazing skateboarding is right now.  We can cry for yesterday but honestly what’s happening right now is just as sick.  You have to take some time and try to see through the nostalgia of some things that you’ll never forget about your upbringing in skateboarding.  Only then can you truly continue to enjoy skateboarding and find new things to inspire you to keep participating in whatever way you like to.  Feel free to comment and share and thanks for checking this out.  This article took me a while as I kept getting sucked into watching all the footage from these amazing skateboarders.
