Team Trip to San Antonio, Texas to Launch the All New Nguyen Duc Hien Southside Capsule
When considering what to do for a board series recently, producer Sean found a folder of scans, of Nguyen Duc Hein’s artwork. These scans had been borrowed from our good friend Mike Nguyen and they were of paintings that his grandfather had done years before. His family had scanned the body of work to show various art dealers and galleries from time to time. In rediscovering them, Sean felt like some of them could possibly make for some really solid skateboard artwork. So we set about going through the fifty or so attempting to narrow it down to about five to celebrate in this way.

We Only had Two Days in San Antonio to Do As Much As We Could
So the Trip Started Out Really Strong for Sure
Koi Pond, Curious Cat, Persimmon Tree, Village Drunk, and Family Duck were some of our favorites but there was also Hillside and a Circle shaped icon that we really liked also. So there are about seven of Nguyen Duc Hein’s artworks being celebrated in this capsule. What made even more sense, was that Mike Nguyen has been skateboarding here at Southside Skatepark since it opened in 1994. So with his blessings, and the approval of his family, we present to you this new board series and complimenting apparel – celebrating the life and works of Nguyen Duc Hein.

Celebrating the Life and Works of Nguyen Duc Hein
This footage is our attempt to show you more about his life and the works beyond this capsule through a visit to his daughter, Bic Nguyen’s home. We begin with a question and answer with Mike Nguyen, the artist’s grandson, to help show us around and attempt to answer some questions about his grandfather along the way.
