Southside Team Trip to Dallas Forth Worth April 8-9th 2017

Southside 365 Decks Available On Our New Online Store!

Southside team trip is always good times with good friends and great skateboarding.  We make sure to bring along a filmer and a photographer to capture Southside affiliates in the streets.  This trip was similar to previous ones but with quite a few new faces.  Many of these skateboarders have become a part of the Southside Team family or are skateboarding towards it.  Each and every one of them are unique and fun to be around and document.  Having been skateboarding and documenting skateboarders for so long I am more thankful now for the time I get to be in the streets with some of the most talented photographers, filmers and skateboarders.

Jay Corleone Pure Skateboarder at 11 Years Old

Southside team trip set to leave the following day I received a call from Jordan Miles.  He said,”hey, Jay wants to go on the trip with us.”  I gave it some thought and decided that probably someone will flake the morning of and he will have a seat.  So I told Jordan go ahead and bring him.  I remember asking his Mom to write me a letter stating Jay was in my custody in case we ran across a harsh boot at any of the spots we wanted to skate.  As it turned out no one flaked and I didn’t get a letter but Jay was happy to sit on the floor of the Southside Suburban for the short drive to Dallas Forth Worth.  If Jay could smile during the kickflip above, he would.  He is very easy to be around and through skateboarding we find common ground on which we relate.  Skateboarding really is the best.

Jordan Miles Never Tires Infectious Motivation

Southside team trip was a first for Jordan Miles.  He’s quite at ease on the road which makes sense.  Having traveled through New Mexico, Arizona, California and all over Texas skateboarding.  Jordan is always thinking about things on a variety of levels be them real life or social media output.  He can be tough to keep up with and is quick to let you know your blowing it on your output.  I enjoy surrounding myself with people as motivated if not more motivated then myself.  Jordan kept the crew in check letting everyone know what they were capable of and cheering them on.

Max Peterson becoming an ATV

It’s been interesting watching Max Peterson continue to evolve his skateboarding.  He’s been focusing a bit more at skateboarding street and when we went on the Southside Team trip it showed.  This was the most productive trip Max has been on yet.  Which proved to be really good timing as we recently put him full on the Southside Team family.

Brendan Sanders Backed by Frankie Gamboa and Carter Wood

It’s interesting how things come to your attention.  Frankie Gamboa and I were discussing the state of Southside as we usually do.  Hypothesizing various talented skateboarders rising up in the Houston area.  He mentioned Brendan Sanders and I remembered him killing the Magic Wax X Southside event a few weeks prior.  Later that day after my shift at Southside Skateshop Westheimer I headed over to the new Gulton Skatepark which had it’s Grand Opening earlier that day.  Carter Wood was there breaking it in, killing it as usual and for some reason he brings up Brendan Sanders.  Said Brendan was improving and starting to get pretty good and that I should keep an eye on him.  Such an uncanny coincidence guided by fate I decided to approach him and request he DM me some street clips.  He never did but he did manage to make the Southside Team trip all the same.

Kyle Rich Catches the Blue Bus to Big D

Ended up getting a call from Kyle Rich saying he had been fired from his job and that he was considering catching the Blue Bus to Dallas to join us.  Erik Ostos insisted he make the trip as he was playing Dallas Fort Worth tour guide.  A few spots later Erik was off to pick Kyle up in Downtown Dallas.  Kyle joined us with an hour and a half of light left on the first day and proceeded to get everything else he did on the trip in one day.  Some people jokingly call this guy “pro Kyle Rich.”

Hollywood Martinez Southside Team Trip MVP and Powell Peralta AM

So by now I have been to Tampa, FL Phoenix, AZ and various cities in Texas with Hollywood Martinez.  Every time we head out of town he is always the same person.  Mellow and going with the flow quietly preparing, thinking and relaxing.  He is content to simply be on the road with nothing to do other then skateboard.  He’s solid and is always down to skate everything we come across.  It is amazing how good he has become and we are all very proud of him.
