Austyn Gillette Quick Raw inspiring skateboarding through his most perfect peddle. And what does that mean? It means the energy that you can witness coming out the tip of the toe upon the act of propelling oneself down the street. Or another way to describe it would be watching a skateboarder manipulating their environment on the level of a world class athlete. By chance I met Austyn Gillette when he was very young. He had come through Houston, Texas on a skateboarding trip with Heath Mo Brinkley, Devine Calloway and Daryl Angel. Devine Calloway had just turned pro for Chocolate and I was aware of Daryl Angel from his part in the Filmbot Files video. Austyn was very comfortable with himself and unfortunately had a pulled muscle and was not skateboarding while in Houston. It was interesting how at ease he was with being in the van on a trip and not be able to skate. I only spent a couple of days with them but Austyn somehow left an impression on me and I have been interested in his skateboarding ever since.

The other day I had some time to watch a couple features of recent online video footage. I happened upon this Quik Raw edit on theberrics.  I had heard through the grapevine that Austyn was sidelined for part of 2015 and most of 2016 with knee surgery on both his knees and even a third knee surgery after. When you hear something like that about one of your favorite skateboarders you can not help but wonder if they will get back to their previous form. Once I watched this Quik Raw edit featuring Austyn Gillette it was obvious he was back and had possibly even surpassed his previous level of talent. It could be that most of my history has been documenting skateboarding so when I watch raw footage I possibly enjoy it more than others.  I can not say for sure but the way this Quik Raw short montage of Austyn skateboarding with no music, I simply found very inspiring and wanted to share.  Thank you for all the years of inspiration Austyn Gillette and here is to many more.  Hear Austyn tell the story of how he feels after the surgery skateboarding now and his point of view regarding his injury leading up to surgery in his own words below.
